Longing is a video performance.

Interested in labour and care, Longing belongs to a series of ongoing video performances. What does it mean to spend our time and energy in pursuit of romantic relationships & intimacy? This is the central question of this particular performance.

In this video, the action trope of ‘Do they love me/love me not’ plays out as an evaluation of worth. In the end, I consume the flowers entirely, visibly gagging. It is sensually suggestive, in juxtaposition with my unkempt nails, facial hair and chapped lips.

Reflections:

< Continuing to refine this particular statement >

. Upcoming: Will be installed on the Cube with the City of Kitchener. (2020)

. Originally it was paired with a small herb garden, reminiscent of healing plants from my grandmothers’ garden. And folks could perform care by watering the plants. It is most likely better as a separate piece.

. Another component was a bookmark of ‘healing’ jars. Again, this has become a separate project.

. I fall in love very easily and at the time I was in a phase of ‘How to make the internet fall in love with me’, (but really the internet was code for a specific person). Exploring the internet & affect in other projects.

. We’re talking toxicity in relationships, lust, sexuality, desire, desirability, etc.

. Who gets to love, and how, and crushing is the ultimate heartache (Cue Conan Gray).
